Break My Mother's Back
Handmade Paper Sculpture, with pulp painting and embossment.
Inspired by kids' chalk drawings on cracked sidewalks around Philadelphia.
Made to be life-size with ripples reminiscent of a human body. This piece serves as a reflection on a city's "skin," and uses recycled materials to make the paper. As I think about mobility between places while drawing hopscotch patterns, I have also been seeing the rungs of a ladder, which could also be the bars of a cage.
